Chicago Series

Chicago’s compelling architecture inspired this collage series, specifically Aqua designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects. The paper source came from a used book of photographs I found at the annual Bronxville Memorial Day Book Sale. I was inspired by the lines, colors and distortions in the photographs, which also coincidently were of buildings along the Chicago River. By lifting the paper strips off the support in this collage series I was able to create an undulating, sculptural quality. The images were further distorted by their positioning on the canvas, which highlight color and design elements.
