Opening Reception: We're Not In Kansas Anymore

On Thursday, September 12th Hastings Village Arts Commission held the Opening Reception for We're Not In Kansas Anymore at the Hastings Village Hall. The event was very well attend and festive! The exhibit includes artwork in a wide variety of art mediums, and at a very high quality. I am proud that my artwork has been included along with other talented artists.

We're Not in Kansas Anymore

Thank you to Hastings Village Arts Commission for selecting My Backyard to be included in We're Not In Kansas Anymore. My Backyard, is an original collage created in 2019 that celebrates the natural beauty found all around Westchester, NY. Nature inspires me, and is often a theme in many of my collages. I recycle printed materials to create my collages, so there is very little waste. I like the challenge of repurposing materials in my collages, and for me it makes each collage more meaningful.

We're Not In Kansas Anymore runs from September 1st through November 2nd at Hastings Village Hall, 7 Maple Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.

Inside Small Art Exhibit: Insights into my Collaging Practice

Since the beginning of 2019 I have been challenging myself to incorporate new collaging techniques into my artwork. In the past my collages have been one dimensional. Recently, I have been exploring how to create dimension using torn paper strips and other recycled materials. I found that I could create texture and movement by lifting torn paper strips off the support. As I work the papers organically fall
into place. The spaces between the strips create depth and gives the viewer a peak at what lays underneath. I have noticed that a change may occur over time as the papers naturally shift and curl. The strips also allow me to play with color in exciting new ways. Layering bold, contrasting colors can give a collage energy.  Using colors that are similar can make a collage feel calm and soothing. I enjoy the process of finding the right combinations of colors and images.

New Collages at Bruce Museum Exhibit

Four original collages will be on exhibit in Your Place Squared at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut from March 9th to June 2nd, 2019.

The theme of the exhibit is your "special place." Do you have a special place that inspires, energizes, or comforts you? I do! The collages below represent some of my special places and places that inspire me.

Bruce Museum Exhibit Your Place Squared

Four of my original collages will be included in Your Place Squared, an exhibit opening March 9th at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut. The theme of the exhibit is your special place, and each artwork is required to be  6 inches by 6 inches in size. Can you think of a special place that brings you joy or comfort? The collages I created for this exhibit were inspired by my love of nature and the outdoors. I pushed myself to incorporate techniques like paper weaving, and breaking the plane of the surface. I used new materials like wooden pegs, collaging on stretched canvas frames, and sealing with Mod Podge. I found the collaging process very exciting, and I am really happy with the results.

Join me for the opening of Your Place Squared at The Bruce Museum on March 9th!
