Hoff Barthelson: Summer Arts Program

Using ordinary household sponges I created stamps of assorted shapes - triangle, square, rectangle and circle. Students used the stamps to explore pattern, texture, color and printing techniques. Although the students all worked with the same materials their artwork looked completely different. One student created a building with different shaped stamps, another student explored how the embossing on the sponge left a pattern on their paper, and another student layered colors in different patterns on their paper. This project is a great way to discuss geometric shapes and how they surround us in our environment.
