Hoff Barthelson: Summer Arts Program

A mixture of flour and water is perfect to use as glue for papier-mâché projects. The flour and water mixture felt squishy said the students as they dipped strips of newspaper into the mixture. Then they criss-crossed the newspaper strips as they layered them on their plastic cup. Students layered, and layered the strips until they had a thickness that when dry would form a strong vessel. When the newspaper looked and felt totally dry I removed the plastic cup (about 2 days). The students painted their cups using a variety of motifs and styles - stripes, dots, flowers, blocks of color, and multi-colors.
